Proposal

First, how we met!

We met December 30, 2014 at the Four Seasons on the dance floor at a wedding. Luke says he noticed me from the very beginning of the night and was waiting for the perfect moment to ask me to dance. As I was about to leave he asked me to dance the Electric Slide and ended up dancing and talking together for another hour. A couple weeks past along with many dates and on January 16, 2015 we became “official”!

Fast forward a year and a half later….

-Me "You wouldn’t be able to surprise me!" and my very competitive now husband took the challenge…

Surprise 1 - The Proposal

Luke's family has a lake house at Possum Kingdom Lake that we often go to. On June 3, 2016 we had planned a lake trip with a few other couples to go watch the Red Bull Cliff Diving competition that was being held there that weekend.

The week before our lake trip Luke said his friend suggested having dinner with everyone at The Cliffs, a restaurant on the lake, to start the weekend off. I had been wanting to go to this restaurant for a while so we decided to dress up for some great pictures since it overlooked the lake.

On the two hour drive there it poured rain for the first hour and a half, we almost ran out of gas, and I decided I needed a sonic drink. (little did I know the debacle that was unfolding at our proposal site. Details at the end ;)

During the drive Luke kept mentioning his back was hurting and needed a short walk to loosen up once we got there. The Lord was looking after us, because as we got close to the restaurant the rain stopped and the skies began to clear.

We arrived and began to take our walk "before the other couples arrived". Unknowingly, I wanted to walk in the wrong direction of our proposal site, but Luke smoothly convinced me the best spot to look at the sunset was in the opposite direction. As we were walking on the pathway of the golf course we rounded a hill and before me was the most beautiful proposal set up. He completely fooled me into thinking he was not proposing until late summer so this was no where on my radar.

Before me were candles in the shape of a heart and inside of the heart were sprinkled rose petals, two pillows with personalized inscriptions, champagne, a teddy bear with our names on it, a bible inscribed with my new name, and on the bible was a little black box

I was trying to comprehend that this moment I had been waiting for was really happening as he drew me into the center of the candle shaped heart. After speaking from his heart he dropped down to one knee, opened the little black box, and asked me to marry him. I said YES and he put a ring on my finger as we overlooked the most beautiful sunset I had ever seen!

Debacle unfolded

(Later I found out that the ring didn't ended up at the proposal site until right before we did. By mistake the ring ended up on the opposite side of the lake where everyone was waiting for us. Because of the heavy rain there were road closures that cut everyone off from the proposal site, Luke's dad had to "commander" an unknown restaurant guest's boat and drive it across the lake to drop the ring off to the proposal site five minutes before we arrived.)

Surprise 2 - What came after!

After he proposed, Luke told me our families and the two couples we had intended to meet where waiting for us to celebrate across the lake at a different restaurant, The Harbor. Ironically, the road to get the the restaurant had just been closed, because of flooding with all of the rain. So Luke's friend Steven picked us up by boat and drove us to the restaurant.

As we docked I noticed the waiters were running away from us to a sectioned off portion of the restaurant and I thought that was strange. Little did I know they were running back to tell everyone we had arrived. As we entered the room where I thought we were to have a small dinner I was overwhelmed with excitement as I saw a room filled with many of our close friends and family who were able to make it. We spent the rest of the night celebrating and dancing the night away!

Thank you so much to everyone who helped make our engagement so incredibly special! And to whoever let Luke’s dad steel their boat! We are both so grateful to have such amazing family and friends in our lives. I especially want to thank my now husband for thinking of every little detail and making it so special and memorable!
